Experiencing Interruptions?

Le pas de côté

A day like any other, Jacques has a desire : to eat a croissant, the last one in a bakery display.

An insignificant act but not without consequences.

Director Biography - Joaquim Bayle

Originally from the north of France and currently living in Paris.
Joaquim Bayle has worked on numerous advertising campaigns through which he gained experience in directing and artistic direction.

During these exploratory years, which he considered to be an artistic laboratory, he began to have an interest in very singular and existential cinema drawing inspiration from tragicomedy and the absurd.

His first short film GWENDOLINE, a black comedy featuring a post-punk band desperately searching for a crowd to play to was screened at top tier Oscars qualifying film festivals (Jury's honorable mention at the Slamdance Festival, Cinema Jove in Valencia, AIFVF…).

Today, at 33, he is using his solid experience to direct a second short film, LE PAS DE CÔTÉ (a philosophical tale about the paradox of desire) shot in his hometown of Arras in the north of France.

Director Statement

Just like what pushed me to write my first short film "Gwendoline", frustration, as painful as it is, remains for me a kind of creative engine that allows me to journey into the world of emotions and feelings to get to the origin of certain anxieties, fantasies and obsessions.

The inner life and more specifically the subject of desire as a cinematic experience is something that I find completely fascinating to explore due to the fact that desire remains, in every era, intrinsic and essential to life and artistic creation but also by its psychological paradox that it maintains within our human condition.

In my opinion it is a timeless subject which still deserves attention depending on the socio-historical context in which we find ourselves.
