Leche Roja: A Portrait of Love and Redemption

Eva, a 300-year-old vampiress, arrives in San Miguel de Allende seeking redemption. Guided by Lili, an elderly American vampire who reinvented herself in Mexico and renounced killing, Eva struggles against centuries of addiction and desire. When her past returns, she must choose between remaining a monster or sacrificing everything for a chance to become human again. Although it contains supernatural elements, Leche Roja is ultimately a story about redemption, transformation, compassion, and the possibility of change.

Eva, una vampira de 300 años, llega a San Miguel de Allende en busca de redención. Guiada por Lili, una anciana vampira estadounidense que se reinventó en México y renunció a matar, Eva lucha contra siglos de adicción y deseo. Cuando su pasado regresa, deberá elegir entre seguir siendo un monstruo o sacrificarlo todo por la posibilidad de volver a ser humana.

DaVida Sal es una cineasta independiente, actriz, escritora y artista multidisciplinaria originaria de Tarragona, España. Se trasladó a Los Ángeles para formarse como actriz, entrenando con reconocidos coaches como Eric Morris y Bernard Hiller, antes de enfocar su carrera en el cine tras enfrentarse a las limitaciones del sistema tradicional de casting.
Ex enfermera de cuidados paliativos, dio un giro decisivo hacia el cine al renunciar a su trabajo y mudarse a San Francisco, donde financió su primer cortometraje en 2009 con su propia devolución de impuestos. Su primer largometraje, Saving Isis (2012), fue creado tras la muerte de su madre, transformando el duelo personal en una exploración cinematográfica sobre la pérdida y la sanación.
Se convirtió en ciudadana estadounidense en 2016 y desde entonces ha continuado desarrollando su voz a través del cine independiente y el artivismo. Su obra incluye cortometrajes como The Secret Covenant (2011), Priority Mail (2014) y Death in Tulum (2023), reflejando su compromiso con la narrativa como herramienta de conciencia, transformación y reflexión social.
Durante la pandemia, DaVida se trasladó a México, donde se reinventó tanto a nivel personal como artístico. Allí creó Leche Roja, una película bilingüe financiada por la comunidad, realizada con actores y profesionales locales en San Miguel de Allende. Profundamente personal y poética, su obra explora temas de identidad, mortalidad y redención a través de una distintiva fusión entre realismo y lo sobrenatural.
Para DaVida Sal, el cine no es solo una práctica artística, sino una forma de sanación: un espacio donde lo emocional, lo espiritual y lo cinematográfico convergen.

Bio (English) -
DaVida Sal is an indie filmmaker, actress, writer, and multidisciplinary artist originally from Tarragona, Spain. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, training with renowned coaches such as Eric Morris and Bernard Hiller, before shifting her focus to filmmaking after encountering the limitations of traditional casting.
A former hospice nurse, she made a decisive transition into cinema after quitting her job and moving to San Francisco, where she financed her first short film in 2009 with her own tax return. Her first feature film, Saving Isis (2012), was created in the aftermath of her mother’s death, transforming personal grief into a cinematic exploration of loss and healing.
She became a U.S. citizen in 2016 and has since continued to develop her voice through independent filmmaking and artivism. Her body of work includes short films such as The Secret Covenant (2011), Priority Mail (2014), and Death in Tulum (2023), reflecting her commitment to storytelling as a tool for awareness, transformation, and social reflection.
During the pandemic, DaVida relocated to Mexico, where she reinvented herself both personally and artistically. There, she created Leche Roja, a bilingual, community-funded film made with local actors and professionals in San Miguel de Allende. Deeply personal and poetic, her work explores themes of identity, mortality, and redemption through a distinctive blend of realism and the supernatural.
For DaVida Sal, filmmaking is not only an artistic practice, but a form of healing—a space where the emotional, the spiritual, and the cinematic converge.

Lo que más me inspiró para crear Leche Roja fue mi propia experiencia de reinvención. He vivido en distintos países, cambiado de profesión y reconstruido mi vida varias veces. Por eso, los temas de la transformación y la redención son profundamente personales para mí.
También me inspiró la idea de una vampira inmigrante que se retira en México. Lili ha pasado décadas intentando dejar atrás su pasado violento y construir una nueva vida. Ella representa la posibilidad del cambio, incluso para alguien que ha pasado siglos siendo una depredadora.
San Miguel de Allende, con su belleza, misterio y comunidad internacional, proporcionó el escenario perfecto para una historia donde lo cotidiano y lo sobrenatural coexisten.
Leche Roja explora la transformación, la adicción y la posibilidad de la redención a través de Eva, una vampira de 300 años que lucha por renunciar a su naturaleza violenta. El vampirismo se convierte en una metáfora de los ciclos de dependencia, deseo y autodestrucción.
Cuando llegué a México, yo misma atravesaba un proceso de reinvención. En ese sentido, Leche Roja no es solo un retrato; también es una confesión. 🎬🩸✨

ENGLISH: What inspired me the most to create Leche Roja is partly my own experience of reinvention. I have lived in different countries, changed careers, and constantly rebuilt my life. The themes of transformation and redemption are deeply personal to me.
Another source of inspiration was the idea of an immigrant vampire retiring in Mexico. Lili has spent decades trying to leave her violent past behind and create a different life for herself. She represents the possibility of reinvention, wisdom, and redemption. She becomes living proof that change is possible, even for someone who has spent centuries as a predator.
San Miguel de Allende also became a major inspiration. Its beauty, history, mystery, and international community provided the perfect setting for a story where the ordinary and the supernatural coexist.
Leche Roja: A Portrait of Love and Redemption was born from a deeply personal exploration of transformation, addiction, and the possibility of redemption.
Through the character of Eva, a 300-year-old vampiress struggling to renounce her violent nature, I wanted to explore what it means to confront one’s past and choose a different path, even when that path feels almost impossible. Vampirism becomes a metaphor for cycles of dependency, desire, and self-destruction.
This film is also intimately connected to my own journey. When I first arrived in Mexico, I found myself in a process of reinvention—letting go of old identities, confronting my past, and searching for a more honest way of existing. In that sense, Leche Roja is a portrait, but also a confession.
