Leaving The Raven's Nest
Allan longs for a life outside his mother’s cluttered home as they both struggle with codependency. As an only child, he is in charge of taking care of his mother but her hoarding condition poses as a challenge for Allan’s seemingly simple role. The clutter has not only been taking up space but it has also been creating distance and Allan needs to do something before the pile completely takes over his life.

I have been reading about hoarding disorder, a condition that is rampant in Filipino households
but we rarely take notice because we grew so used to it that we consider it as normal. At the
same time, it made me ask the question: “Do hoarding parents also hoard their children?”
In LEAVING THE RAVEN’S NEST I wanted to narrate a subjective interaction of a mother and
son in a particular space; and how such space influences their relationship. I hope that it can
inspire self-reflection towards living a life free from emotional weights from our individual pasts.
