Justin Kumiega is a Syracuse-born filmmaker and recent TV, Radio & Film graduate who specializes in producing, directing, and editing narrative projects. He has worked hands-on in all phases of production — from budgeting and casting to post-production and social media promotion. Justin’s work often blends grounded characters with a subtle sense of suspense and emotional depth, reflecting his belief that compelling stories can come from ordinary places. He is currently based in Los Angeles, where he continues developing short films and series ideas.
As a filmmaker, I am drawn to stories that reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary. My work often begins with grounded characters in familiar settings, but I use suspense, tone, and emotional undercurrents to peel back layers of what lies beneath the surface. I believe that even the most unassuming moments can hold tension, beauty, and meaning—and it’s in that space where I find the stories I want to tell.
Having worked across every stage of production—from budgeting and casting to editing and promotion—I see filmmaking as a collaborative process of discovery. Each step is an opportunity to shape not just the story on screen, but the way audiences will experience it. My goal is always to create films that engage people both viscerally and emotionally, leaving them with questions to carry long after the credits roll.
Now based in Los Angeles, I continue developing narrative shorts and series that combine my love of character-driven storytelling with a subtle edge of suspense. For me, directing is about guiding a shared vision while allowing space for spontaneity, surprise, and honesty. Ultimately, I want my films to feel alive—to reflect the unpredictability of human experience while reminding us of the power of connection through story.
