Director Statement

My great joy was finding this career. My great pain has been to survive it. In 2008, a failed attempt to travel a theatre production left me broke and homeless. If it weren't for the kindness of my community, I too could have lost the last thing that keeps a being whole - my dignity.

"Last Name Unknown" is the manifestation of my life's work to soften the images of Black men through media. The visual language that I've created with this show aims to provide nuance and a fresh look at the unseen and allow these powerful characters a platform to thrive.

From sex trafficking of a family member to dream chasing in Hollywood, the themes in the show are personal to me, and it's my pleasure to share the youth of the Beyond Hope Shelter with you.
