The Last Evangelist (Pilot)
In the near future, former federal agent Jon Rhodes is on the run after raiding an underground church where one of its members is viciously gunned down by SWAT. Jon finds himself tormented by the killing and returns to the scene of the crime where he relives the small church singing. At that moment Jon realizes the government he once served has become corrupt. With a Bible in one hand and a gun in the other, Jon sets out to protect the vulnerable souls he once exposed and oppressed.

David Heavener is a seasoned Hollywood filmmaker who has written, produced and starred in over 50 motion pictures. He has directed Hollywood greats including Academy Award winners Martin Landau, Tony Curtis and more. His movies have premiered on HBO, Showtime and major TV networks worldwide.
After five decades in Hollywood—directing Academy Award winners, premiering films on HBO and Showtime, and navigating the machine of mainstream entertainment—I've never been more compelled to tell a story than I am right now.
This film is born from a burning question that haunts our times: What happens when the very institutions meant to protect us become the ones we need protection from?
In Jon Rhodes, I've created a character who embodies the moral crisis facing America today. He's a man caught between two worlds—the government machinery he once faithfully served, and the awakening conscience that refuses to let him sleep at night. With a Bible in one hand and a gun in the other, Jon represents every American grappling with the collision between duty and truth, between order and righteousness.
Having worked within the Hollywood system for decades, I've witnessed firsthand how power corrupts, how narratives get controlled, and how inconvenient truths get buried. This story emerged from my own journey of awakening—the gradual realization that the very industry I helped build has become complicit in a larger deception.
The underground church scene isn't just a plot device—it's a symbol. It represents the last bastion of authentic faith in a world where even worship has become weaponized by those in power. When Jon witnesses that innocent believer gunned down by SWAT, he's not just watching a murder—he's witnessing the death of everything he thought he stood for.
What sets this film apart from my previous work is its unflinching examination of faith under fire. Jon's torment isn't just psychological—it's spiritual warfare made manifest. The haunting church singing that echoes in his mind becomes both his condemnation and his redemption, calling him back to a truth he can no longer deny.
This is guerrilla filmmaking with a purpose. Every frame serves a dual mission: to entertain and to awaken. We're not just making a movie—we're documenting a moment in history when ordinary people must choose between comfortable compliance and dangerous truth-telling.
The character arc of Jon Rhodes mirrors America's own journey from blind trust to painful awareness. His transformation from enforcer to protector reflects the spiritual awakening happening across our nation as people realize that their greatest enemy may be wearing a badge, carrying a warrant, or speaking from a podium.
This film is my act of rebellion against a system that seeks to silence truth. It's my love letter to every whistleblower, every person of conscience, every believer who refuses to bow down when the state demands worship.
After directing Hollywood legends and working within the studio system, I've learned that the most important stories are often the ones the industry doesn't want told. This is one of those stories.
Jon Rhodes carries a Bible and a gun because in today's America, faith without the means to defend it is just wishful thinking. His journey from oppressor to protector isn't just character development—it's prophecy.
This is more than entertainment. This is a wake-up call wrapped in cinema.
