Las Ptinas

Las Ptinas (8'45", English subtitles, 2017) is an original, stop-motion, animated film created to increase environmental awareness and to help children and adults understand critical, ecological issues that affect their place of residence. The film was the result of the first PCAI Junior program that took place in the end of 2017 in Athens; during that the students not only did they become aware of local environmental problems but they also worked towards problem solving through creative games, group activities, drawing, illustration, collage, animation and film. The film was created by the experienced PCAI Junior team in collaboration with the 5th Elementary Class pupils from Geitonas School .

Geitonas school is located in Voula, an area which is part of the Kesariani Forest and it is considered protected due to its natural wealth. The forest contains an ecosystem of 250 animal species and hosts 98 different types of migratory birds that use the place to rest before traveling to Africa. Their trip, though, has been obstructed the last few years due to human interventions in the area. This element has been the source of inspiration for Las Ptinas and for the creation of the characters and the story developed in the film. After the first PCAI Junior program and Las Ptinas the PCAI Junior platform has traveled to Omani schools, where it's been awarded for its originality by the Directorate of Education of Oman.
