Imogen is passionate about creating films that share the intricacies of everyday life. Her recent documentary ‘IF EVERYONE KNEW’ (2021) shares three women’s personal experiences of baby loss and is available to watch on Amazon Prime. Imogen’s ability to craft a story comes from her observational mind, finding the beauty in the nuances of every day life. She creates sensitive, moving and instinctively human experiences in her writing and directing.
Most recently Imogen has directed second unit on season 6 of Peaky Blinders, and whilst developing her own projects, she is currently working as assistant to director Anthony Byrne.
Before making the transition to directing, Imogen worked in production and research teams on feature documentaries including ‘Coldplay - A Head Full of Dreams’,‘The Great Hack’ and ‘Nascondino - Hide & Seek’. Imogen has produced over 100 music videos and has seen her work nominated for awards including a VMA for The 1975 ‘Love It If We Made It’ and a Brit Award for Jax Jones ‘Breathe’.
Imogen currently has two films on the festival circuit. 'LAPSE' is a romantic thriller written by Karen Stirgwolt and featuring Emmett J. Scanlan and Gina Bramhill, and ‘WOMAN IN RETROGRADE’, a Screen Ireland funded psychological drama featuring Kellie Blaise and Paddy C. Courtney.
Imogen is currently developing her debut feature, and is in post on her latest short film 'Teenage Love Forever' which explores the ebbs and flows of a relationship in both its light and darkness.
When Karen Stirgwolt (writer) approached me with this script I knew it was a story I wanted to tell because it put an original female perspective at the forefront. This film was inspired by Fatal Attraction and the idea of flipping the narrative of the one sided relationship and the desperate woman. We wanted to tell a story that does not adhere to the usual stereotypes of gender roles within casual relationships. While watching this film I want the audience to question their own perceptions of adultery and ultimately, how judgement differs for women and men.
Working with Gina Bramhill and Emmett J Scanlan was phenomenal. I adore the work of both of them and developing these characters with them was a joy. There are nuances in their characters behaviours which may go unnoticed but that were established to give a real human and relatable emotion to both Lara and Bert.
The look of this film is something I developed with Simon Plunket (director of photography) taking inspiration from cinematic thrillers and 80’s cinema, we explored the use of darkness and pools of light to build emotion and tension. Planning scenes and frames in this way as well as lensing and blocking to emphasise physical space (or lack of) has given this film a bold cinematic vision.
