Director Statement

Lamb is about a couple who tries to find excitement and security in their relationship by focusing on another couple's problems. The gossip is the foreplay that leads to a lamb "orgy," but in the end, they are left dissatisfied and emotionally starved.

It is a comedy that will probably leave the audience a little uncomfortable, with the aftertaste of the couple's disaffection.

I have struggled with emotional intimacy all my life; I have trouble expressing my needs, and the uncomfortable space between the natural stages of connection, disconnection, and reconnection that occur in a relationship terrifies me. Lamb is an exploration of that fear and my inability to say what I mean. Humor is my survival mechanism through that uncomfortable space, and it is only fitting that I explore these fears through comedy.

This film was shot during the pandemic. To keep actors Covid safe on a shoe-string budget was challenging, especially when food and drinks were involved. In blocking and shot listing, I decided to keep contact between the actors to a minimum and to rely more on single shots to tell the story. Ultimately, I think these choices help to underline the emotional distance between the two characters and the isolation they feel.
