Director Biography - Zhan Petrov

My first name is Zhan, pronounced like the French Jean. My father is a big fan of French movies, and he named me after Jean Luc Godard, director of the classic movie, Breathless featuring another Jean - Jean Paul Belmondo.
I'm an immigrant from Ukraine and I came to America to get away from the warfare in my country. I am a graduate of the Ukranian National Marine Academy and I worked my way up on the ships to become a second officer.
During voyages which took me around the world, I met many different kinds of people and cultures, and became interested in storytelling.

LOVE FUNERAL
FILM BY ZHAN PETROV

The movie begins. After reading the title, the viewer immediately has the effect of “ON”. A chaotic video sequence rushes through my head, there are associations. This story will be told with the help of very spectacular and new cinematic techniques.

Brainwashing by ordinary media mixed with political correctness, and with the stereotypes that we call actors today, are not interesting to me. I feel sorry for many talented filmmakers who sold their souls and forgot about the wonders of life prose, lost the ability to experiment, stuck in a money race. What is the budget for the film? What is a box office? How many famous actors do you have on the set? It's more exciting now...

This film was made with passion and complete freedom of actors to express themselves in various circumstances that I created in momentum with my friends.

They say that improvisation is good only when you know how it ends.) But here no one knew what it would end with, it wouldn't even start with anything. It was a flight of living imagination and expression.

Actress Klarissa Barskaya and I were inspired by Mike Figus’s film "Time Code" and Sebastian Shipper’s "Victoria". I decided to make a film that will tell about the dark side of the relationship between lovers.

My colleague and friend Vitaly offered an unexpected location, and it turned out to be perfect.

To enhance creative improvisation and spontaneity.

The film involved Kristina and Vitaly, who really didn't know each other before. It was a little risky, but all the risks were justified!

We exhaled deeply and shouted loudly: ACTION!

A team of three people. No budget, no pavilion, and only phones in hand.

All this looks like crazy ambitions and an unrealistic goal. But we did it! The first feature film lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.

This film is sincere and honest. There is a soul in it. And I hope that the viewer will see my message in it, which can also be a lesson.

In the first part, Klarissa shot the film as a cameraman. In the second part, I decided to put her inside the events taking place at the moment. Her natural dissatisfaction sounds very good in the overall picture.

Another direction of impulse that I create is when Christina pushes Vitaly to the pool.

The whole action is filmed with the help of 4 mobile phone cameras, which is especially enhanced by Vitaly's strong struggling performance in the bathroom.

Everything we create happened by some special creative inertia, and by an invisible agreement with each other. All the proposed circumstances arose as if on their own, and none of the actors knew what they would have to face at the next and next moment. Like in Ford Boyar, who throws more and more complex and insurmountable tasks, but this time happening in life itself.

The girls talk about a relationship with an unknown, almost homeless artist. And all these three seemingly completely different characters have the same pain...
