LONGLONG

Longlong is an animated film set in the tropical rainforest of Xishuangbanna, focusing on Asian elephants and the rainforest as its central themes. It tells the story of a rainforest adventure between a young boy and a baby Asian elephant within the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve.

Combining natural science education with the enchantment of a fairy tale, this film showcases various typical rainforest species, including epiphytic plants such as Papilionanthe teres, Dendrobium denneanum, Vanda brunnea, and Dendrobium moniliforme, as well as trees bearing fruits on old branches or trunks, like Baccaurea ramiflora. It also highlights iconic insects, birds, and rainforest features such as the orchid mantis (Hymenopus coronatus), sunbirds (Nectariniidae), the slender skimmer (Orthetrum sabina), Dillenia turbinata, Alocasia odora, large buttress roots, and strangler figs (Ficus aurea).
Utilizing the oil paint-on-glass animation, the film portrays the true essence of the "colorful rainforest" while conveying its central message of "biodiversity conservation".

The film draws inspiration from the remarkable 2021 migration of wild Asian elephants in Yunnan Province, southwest China. Over 17 months, a herd of elephants traveled hundreds of kilometers, captivating global audiences.
The film is modeled after the rescue elephant "Longlong" in the Asian Elephant Breeding and Rescue Center. In July 2021, two-month-old Longlong was found abandoned due to severe leg injuries in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. He was subsequently rescued and taken to the Asian Elephant Rescuing and Breeding Center. The film accurately portrays the characteristics and life experience of the baby elephant Longlong from multiple perspectives.
