LETTERS ON THE SEA
It is the 70's in the Cuba of prohibitions and totalitarianism. Pipo" (Carlos Izquierdo) decides to escape from the island in search of freedom. A speedboat will come to pick him up to take him to Miami, then a bastion of Cubans on the run. The meeting point with "the extractor" is an old shack in ruins that looks, with nostalgia, towards the Florida Straits. There Pipo meets Noé (Orlando Núnez), an angry old man who is also on the run. Not from Cuba, but from himself, and from an old dream mutilated at the dawn of a revolution that promised a better life. And it turns out that in it he also lost the most precious affections of his life.
Pipo's arrival could not be more inopportune: the suicide rope hangs from the only beam that has not succumbed to the abandonment of the old hut; the military revolver lies on the small table where Noe has written his last letter. But Pipo has to take refuge in the cabin. They are looking for him. Escaping" in Cuba is punishable by years in jail... or death. And those who are after him prefer the second option.
Meanwhile, in the clandestine dungeons of the State Security, an unhinged "Lieutenant Guerra" (Jorge Manzanilla) savagely tortures William (Carlos Pascual), Pipo's direct boss, suspected of having conspired to escape. Inevitably, the whereabouts of the young fugitive will be discovered.

Orlando Núñez (Andy Montana) is a director who will soon be 70 years old. Although Cartas en el Mar is his first film, Orlando has been an enthusiastic entrepreneur in the performing arts since 2006, when he began his foray into theater as a producer. Since then, Orlando began an uninterrupted career preparing himself in writing, producing and directing films, as well as acting. He has dedicated all the time his business allows him to prepare and it was in 2016 when he wrote his short film "Arthur" which made it to Cannes. Subsequently he also wrote and directed several music videos for some important artists in Mexico and with the help of other entrepreneurs who love the film industry, Letters in the Sea, becomes the first finished feature film of several projects headed by Andy Montana (Orlando Núnez) among which are "Black Baccara" and "Loyaute" respectively.
"ILLUMINATING STORIES".
I can't conceive of forming a story in my mind without the creative assistance of a cinematographer because that's how I have walked these beautiful roads of cinema. That's why since I've known JC Santillan I've learned that my stories have two halves; one when I write them and the other when JC captures them. That's when I discover the story I wanted to write. It is when we are, as he himself said, "ILLUMINATING STORIES".
