Kri-ji-me fëminije
”Childhood cr(imes)eations” or Language as the highest expression of breath.
An Albanian child of the 1980s is horrified when he learns that an eagle once dropped a tortoise from above onto the head of Aeschylus, mistaking it for a rock, and killed the ancient genius. The child founds a secret guard unit and begins to protect the heads of socialist-realist writers who came to spend their holidays in Pogradec (a town in southern Albania, on the shore of Lake Ohrid). The book closely follows the ways in which certain childhood events later transform into metaphors — and especially the reverse. By “reviving” key elements of the spoken language and the poetic dimension of the Porradeci mindset, the author reflects on the fierce struggle of wooden, rigid language — both then and now — against the Higher Language (poetic and spiritual); on artistic creation as an expression of idealism; and on the accurate knowledge of the self, a knowledge that often separates genuine writers from the rest.
