Experiencing Interruptions?

Komorebi

Komorebi is a contemplative documentary that weaves together faith, nature, and culture in modern-day Japan. It explores the quiet intersections of spirituality, science, and tradition. Through interviews with Japanese pastors, a Japanese professor, and a Japanese scientist, the documentary traces a subtle thread: the search for meaning in a country shaped by ancient rituals and modern skepticism. Rather than preaching answers, Komorebi offers breadcrumbs—inviting viewers into sacred tension, where the divine may be glimpsed in both the stillness of the forest and the complexity of the mind.

Director Biography - Joel Canady

Joel graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a degree in Electronic Media and Journalism and a Minor in Cinema Studies. Upon graduation, he moved back to his hometown of Memphis to further pursue his love of film. It wasn’t long before he found himself working at a video production company called Churchill Studios. After just two years, Joel became co-owner of the studio. Joel prides himself on having the turn-around and response time of a team 3 times as large as Churchill, while maintaining the heart, spirit and attention to detail that comes from one on one interaction. Though Joel’s heart and home are in Memphis, he is currently working on projects all over the world. A love of travel and a desire to do business where it is needed has been a driving force in his career.
