Director Biography - Steven LeFever

Steven LeFever was born in Guam and moved to California at 19 for college. He went to California State University, Long Beach and studied acting and communications. He got into filmmaking after he graduated when he moved to Japan and began a YouTube series called Tasty English. This is when he learned multiple facets of film, including producing, camera, sound, editing, and ultimately, directing. His first short film, the award-winning "Håyi Gaitano Este: or What Does God Smell Like", was an homage to his home, having been shot on Guam and focusing on socio-political issues the island struggles with today. Gaikokujin, his second short film, shows a day in the life of a foreigner in Tokyo, and essentially how all foreigners are connected. His two majors have helped him become a director: with acting, he understands the process an actor goes through to achieve the mood for a given scene, while communications helps him share his vision clearly so that everyone, cast and crew, is on the same page working towards the same goal. His passion for filmmaking continues to grow on every project he is a part of, whether in front or behind the camera.
