Kings America Made
Kings America Made tells the story of a young black boy’s journey to find peace in America while grappling with his own mental trauma, evolving sexuality and visions of death. His story is told through real life testimonies of four queer black men currently living in New York City. Deon Mims (32), a photographer from South Carolina looks for hope while rebuilding and navigating life after his father’s suicide. New York native and brand strategist, Daniel Calderon (33), struggles to connect with his family since being disowned and dejected at 16 due to his parent’s religious beliefs. Richard Brookshire (30), a bi-racial writer from Florida grapples with his role as an activist in the black community, while being the son of a Trump supporting father whose absence has lead him down a path of toxic relationships and suicidal thoughts. Kameron Mack (28), a multimedia creative from Kansas and the film’s creator, battles with the fact he hid his true identity as a gay man from the world and inadvertently prevented his father from getting to know him before his untimely death.
This film is for the young black queer boys who need to hear these stories, know that life gets better and that suicide is never the answer to overcome trauma.

"'Kings America Made' is the film I needed as a young, lost, black, gay boy growing up in Kansas. Mental illness wasn't discussed in my home and isn't really talked about in the black gay community. I pray this film kicks off that conversation for any and everyone in need." - Kameron Mack
