Karaoke, The End

'Karaoke, The End' is a short coming-of-age film about 17-year-old Luna, who can't wait to shake off her childhood identity. She secretly has somewhat ‘steamy' contact with the charismatic 37-year-old Michael, to whom she shows herself as a mature and desirable woman. But with her father Jeff, she still takes on the role of a young, good daughter. She switches back and forth between her two identities and thus knows how to keep the online and offline world apart flawlessly. Until the moment these worlds unexpectedly collide and Luna is confronted with the expectations she has created.

Director Biography - Muck van Empel

Muck van Empel is an independent film professional based in Amsterdam. She works as a director, screenplay consultant, 1st AD, acting coach and assistant to director. Raised between the theater and film industry, with a mother as an actress and a father as a documentary cameraman, the love for creation is in her blood.
A one-year Drama course in England fired her up for the close and collaborative work with actors. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts & Sciences from University College Roosevelt. Studying social psychology, philosophy, and anthropology, further sparked her fascination for human behavior and intercultural interaction. At the Dutch Film Academy she found the right ground to combine all this in the world of fictional narration. She graduated as a fiction director in 2017 with the mid-length film 'Ignorance is Bliss', which premiered as the opening film of the La Cabina International Med-length Film Festival in Valencia.
Her love for colorful and aesthetic photography is reflected in the fifteen-years of collecting photo books. In her work, Muck is always looking for the deeper, painful but beautiful layers underneath intimate human contact, making use of the colorful and imaginative qualities of film.
With her analytical skills and cheerful social character she is a 'fish in water' on a film set.
