Lara Sousa is a filmmaker from Mozambique. She studied documentary filmmaking at the EICTV (Cuba). Lara's short films have an essayistic and self-referential aesthetic. Her films have been selected for into several festivals, including Dakar’s Biennale 2020. She was selected for ColabNowNow – British Council Digital Arts Residence, as a Southern African storyteller and was recently selected to Berlinale Talent Campus, as well as Talent Campus DocStation. Lara is a fellow of Digital Lab Africa, and a Creative Producers Indaba Fellow. Her first documentary, The Ship and the Sea, was selected for the Berlinale DocStation and won the IDFA Bertha Fund Award at the Durban Film Market in 2020.
