Paper Bag

This film narrate a story of a homeless, helpless, educated, self respectful, egoistic student, who is fighting against his present situation with his hunger, philosophy and ethics. He deeply feels that education doesn't have any value. And people are becoming more and more inhuman in this society. This film has tried to portray the character as Kagojer Thonga (paper bag).

Director Biography - Akhilesh Mandal

Akhilesh Mandal post graduated on History with a degree in Islamic History and Culture. Though he has a diploma in graphics and animation but he has started his carrier as a professional editor in the medium of audio-visuals since 2007. He is a very serious student of film-making. He devoted his valuable time for watching world and Indian Films, learning basic of film making through Films and books of film making. He is an Ex student of the Chitrabani Filmmaking batch 2015 have directed and executed few short films till date.

“Job Vacancy” (17 min) is his first serious short film after passing out from Chitrabani, got selected in the Kolkata Short Film Festival 2015 and won the award for the ‘Best Film Direction’ at the 3rd Kolkata International Short Film Festival 2016 organized by Kolkata Cine Docu Short Foundation. “Family” (6 min) is his second short length film and has participated in couple of film festivals, viz., KSFF 2015 and KISFF 2016. "Asomprikto" (29 min) is his third short length fiction film. It got selected in 9th International Short and Documentary Film festival of Kerala 2016, 2nd ICS International Film Festival of Kerala 2016, Kolkata Short Film Festival 2016 and SSF Film Festival of Kolkata 2017. It awarded with "Best Film" in SSF Film Festival in 2017. "Journey of Rain" (3 min) is his fourth short film and "Kagojer Thonga" (34 min) is his fifth short fiction film.

Director Statement

I don't make films for money. It is all about passion. I have always tried to explore art through my films. I believe that film is an Art.

Kagojer Thonga has taken almost 3 years & 6 months to be complete. It is very unusual but true. In between years I have faced many obstacle and odd situation to finish the film. I had started its per-production in the month of June 2016 and now it is end of November 2019 ! But I kept my passion and patience alive. Thank you everyone who supports me always and keeps faith on me. Thank you my family! Thank you Kagojer thonga Team.
