Experiencing Interruptions?

KOPI - The Human Journey Behind Your Coffee

KOPI – The Human Journey Behind Your Coffee is an AI-human hybrid documentary created by Singapore-based Rebeltech Collective. The film combines real-world documentary production, original FPV drone cinematography, firsthand field research, human storytelling, and generative AI within a single cinematic workflow.

Beginning from the perspective of a Singaporean filmmaker and coffee drinker, the documentary travels beyond the finished cup and into Indonesia’s coffee-growing highlands to uncover the people, places, labour, knowledge, and human relationships behind coffee.

Through field expeditions across Indonesia, the Rebeltech Collective team documents coffee farmers, families, rural communities, landscapes, and generations of agricultural knowledge. The film shifts attention away from coffee as a finished lifestyle product and returns it to its origin: the hands that cultivate it, the environments that sustain it, and the communities whose lives are connected to every harvest.

KOPI was not generated from prompts alone. Its foundation is authentic documentary filmmaking.

The team travelled to real locations, met and documented people firsthand, conducted field research, captured original documentary footage, and flew FPV drones through the environments in which the story takes place. Artificial intelligence was incorporated only after the real-world production had established the people, geography, culture, and emotional foundation of the documentary.

Within the film’s AI-human hybrid methodology, generative AI is used to expand the documentary’s visual language rather than replace reality. It helps visualise relationships, historical memory, environmental change, cultural inheritance, and the interconnected systems surrounding coffee production—elements that cannot always be captured directly through a conventional camera.

The Director’s Cut expands the original documentary with additional AI-human hybrid sequences exploring environmental vulnerability, cultural heritage, agricultural knowledge, economic pressure, and the largely invisible chain of human effort connecting rural coffee-growing communities to consumers around the world.

At its centre, KOPI remains a human story.

It asks audiences to look beyond the drink, beyond convenience, and beyond the final destination of coffee. Before coffee reaches a café, supermarket, kitchen, or cup, it has already passed through landscapes, families, livelihoods, uncertainty, labour, and generations of accumulated knowledge.

By combining documentary fieldwork, FPV drone cinematography, human creative direction, and generative AI, KOPI – The Human Journey Behind Your Coffee explores how emerging technology can deepen documentary storytelling without erasing the reality on which the story is built.

I. Rebeltech Collective: The Brand Identity

The Defiant Origin
Rebeltech Collective is a pioneering team of Singapore-based content creators defined by raw passion and an unapologetic defiance of traditional pipelines. We didn't come from film schools or corporate ad agencies; we learned every aspect of filmmaking and IT from scratch, fueled by a rebellious spirit and a hunger to create something truly different.

Before cameras and scripts, we cut our teeth in the events, nightlife, and entertainment scene, building a name through unconventional marketing. We then pivoted to tech, running a successful business until we shut it all down to chase something bigger: storytelling without limits. No offices. No air-conditioned meetings. Just a team of partners huddled under the void decks of HDB blocks, dreaming up wild ideas that shouldn't work but do.

Our content doesn't follow trends—it defies them. We thrive on the unpredictable, from FPV drones screaming over active volcanoes to AI-generated shorts and tech adventures in places no one dares to film. We build worlds, push tech to its breaking point, and turn "what if?" into "watch this."

The Founding Partners and Collaborators
The collective is driven by its founding partners, representing a unique Singaporean-Indonesian partnership, and its newest key collaborator:

Budiyan (Core & Drive): The visionary founder and lead content strategist. His entire expertise, including deep IT knowledge, specialized background in marketing, sales, and negotiation, and mastery of FPV piloting, is entirely self-taught, positioning him as the strategic force behind the collective's technical and commercial success.

Hiswady (Co-Founder): Singapore's first Malay filmmaker to achieve this level of international recognition utilizing Artificial Intelligence, who creates his work while wheelchair-bound, and is the founder of the popular horror channel TACODE.

Amir (Partner): Essential creative and technical partner (Singapore). He specializes in FPV flying to compliment Budiyan’s skills, providing crucial aerial logistics and execution during cinematic drone shoots.

Okta (Partner - Indonesia): Crucial on-the-ground partner who guarantees the authenticity of our regional content, based in Lahat, South Sumatra, Indonesia.

Azhar (Collaborator - Gaming): A new member focused on the collective's gaming side channel "KIMICENA," known for his expertise in games like Pokémon Go.

Because why film a gadget unboxing in a studio when you could do it on the edge of a crater?

Rebeltech Collective: No Rules. Just Create.
The Greatest Story is the one you save. Not the one you create.

Director Statement

At Rebeltech Collective, we have always been driven by the endless possibilities of technology. As creators, our work is defined by constant learning and adaptation — whether exploring the latest in AI or deconstructing complex systems for a wider audience. KOPI – The Human Journey Behind Your Coffee is our first foray into filmmaking, and it perfectly blends our passion for technology with our belief in the power of human stories.

This film is a documentary‑AI hybrid, a creative experiment born from our desire to push the boundaries of traditional storytelling. We used AI not as a gimmick, but as an essential tool to visualize the data, processes, and interconnected systems that are often invisible to the average consumer. By marrying the cold logic of AI with the warm, rich narratives of coffee farmers, roasters, and baristas, KOPI reveals the full picture of what it takes to bring coffee from farm to cup.

The film exists in two versions. The Director’s Cut introduces the Telemetry Frame, first showcased in KOPI by Rebeltech Collective. This distinctive cinematic technique layers documentary reality with emotional resonance, establishing a new grammar for hybrid cinema. By merging FPV drone cinematography with AI‑driven storytelling, KOPI demonstrates how technology can deepen empathy rather than distract from it.

From Singapore to Indonesia — from Jakarta’s urban pulse to the coffee‑growing highlands of South Sumatra — KOPI is a testament to the grit, precision, and passion that define the coffee industry. Ultimately, it reflects our own journey as creators: a constant process of learning, adapting, and finding new ways to connect with audiences.

KOPI is more than a film about coffee. It is a groundbreaking work that rewrites the rules of cinema, establishing the Telemetry Frame as Rebeltech Collective’s defining breakthrough and inspiring viewers to see their morning coffee — and the world — in a whole new light.
