Just Today

In a very social realist style, it tells the story of a single mum living in Glasgow who decides not to go into work and spends the day with her 7 year old daughter. Through the innocence of her daughter, Tressa finds a way of escaping her violent reality for a day. A contrast between the innocence of a child and the reality of a struggling mum. A beautiful and intimate relationship between a mother and daughter.

Director Statement

What intrigues me in story telling, is the constant questioning of identity and the journey the protagonist takes into finding themselves, their place in the world. Having to face obstacles and the various ways we deal with them. I wanted to explore the contrast between the innocence of a child up against the harsh reality of a single working class mother. In a very social realist style, the film is about the beautiful and strong bond between them, through escapism and expression.
