Jura Mountains

Jura Mountains is a gripping road movie and psychological thriller that takes the audience on a twisting journey through the dense, fog-laden landscapes of the French Jura. At the heart of the film is François, a semi-alcoholic, unsuccessful novelist living in a haze of mediocrity and self-doubt. He spends his days nursing a quiet despair, having never achieved the literary success he dreamed of, and his nights drowning in alcohol to silence the nagging feeling that his life is slipping away.
François' life takes an unexpected turn when his old friend, Olivier, comes to him with a strange and unsettling request: to help him find a woman he has seen in a recurring dream. According to Olivier, in the dream, he was told to search for her lost passport at the Dom Square in Utrecht. Incredibly, Olivier actually finds the passport there—proof that his dream was more than just a figment of his imagination. Despite the absurdity of the situation, François agrees to help his friend, unsure of what they are really searching for but eager to escape his own disillusionment.
Their journey takes them across the rural French countryside and into the Jura region, where Olivier believes the woman, Amélie, lives. Along the way, the pair encounter strange and unexpected situations, from cryptic locals to bizarre coincidences that only fuel the growing tension between them. As François becomes increasingly fascinated with the mystery of Amélie, he begins to realize that his own search is not just for the woman, but for something deeper—perhaps a sense of purpose, love, or redemption.
During their travels, François uncovers secrets about Olivier and Amélie that no one could have anticipated. He learns that Amélie had been living a double life—producing and distributing homemade LSD in a small commune in the Jura. The more they investigate, the more they uncover the dark underworld she was a part of, leading them to question whether they are simply pawns in a much larger, more dangerous game.
As they finally close in on Amélie, François finds himself caught in a whirlwind of emotions and revelations. His growing attraction to the elusive woman forces him to confront his own inner demons and desires, while Olivier’s obsession with finding her takes on a more sinister tone, revealing his deeper motivations for wanting to locate her.
The film builds to a tense and unexpected climax as the truth about Amélie’s disappearance, her involvement with the underground world of drugs, and the true nature of François and Olivier’s friendship are revealed. Ultimately, Jura Mountains is a psychological thriller that examines the complexities of identity, obsession, and the search for meaning in a world that often seems devoid of purpose. Through their journey, both men must confront the darkest corners of their own souls as they come to terms with what they are truly seeking.
