John Leslie Hulcombe is a true artist in every sense of the word. His music is timeless, and one could easily draw comparisons to such diverse artists as Rufus Wainwright and Pink Floyd. Since his first release in 2020 his music has touched thousands via extensive radio play on independent and community radio stations throughout the world and to date his music has accumulated close to 300,000 streams on Spotify. His music video ‘Cosmic Echoes’ has also won several film festival awards in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Hailing from the Glasshouse Mountains on the Sunshine Coast, John has established himself as a musical pivot for some of the regions most talented and high-profile musicians. Working with artists such as Peter Koppes, former founding member and guitarist with one of Australia’s most influential and enduring bands, ‘The Church’.
Hulcombe’s uplifting and thought-provoking lyrics are relatable across generations and his vocals are delivered with such passion and emotion that you can’t help but get swept along in the moment. Musically, Hulcombe is comfortable crossing several genres and his influences are far and wide. Spending an extended period of time ignoring the music of Western cultures has given Hulcombe the opportunity to hone his craft and develop a unique and distinctive sound. After a lengthy time away, Hulcombe was inspired back into music by a local song writing competition which became the catalyst for two years of intense productivity and five exceptional releases.
Whilst his releases over the past couple of years have crossed a mixed bag of genres such as dream pop, pop rock, gospel and more, there is a consistency to his music which is instantly recognisable as John Leslie Hulcombe.
Indie Dock Music: “John’s first and foremost talent is his ability to create unforgettable melodies with good soul lyrics. The song, 'Love Found a Way', bursts into our consciousness with its beauty and bright background and fills the expanses of the planet, gathering eyes of happy people and that the lyric in the structure of the song sounds like a hymn of love.”
Send Me Your Ears: “John Leslie Hulcombe has produced something really quite beautiful and ethereal in his latest track, Sanctuary. We firmly believe this song deserves a wide audience and would strongly recommend lovers of dream pop and chillout music to drop everything and go listen to Sanctuary.”
Hulcombe cites Glastonbury Festival as his dream gig and his drive and ambition are evident in every aspect of his music. He also plans to release his first album in the next twelve months. Based on the quality of writing and musicianship, these are not unreachable goals. John Leslie Hulcombe is currently recording a new single ‘The History of Sugar’ which is due for release in early 2023.
An unmissable artist whose dreamy and uplifting music will be sure to remain in his listeners’ heads and hearts.
