John Ford, the man who invented America
Both the teller and the founder of the American myth, John Ford was far more than just a director of Westerns, the role to which he is often limited. Over a career that lasted fifty years and nearly 150 films – Stagecoach (1939), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), The Battle of Midway (1942), The Searchers (1956), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), to name a few –, the director to have won the most Oscars never stopped putting America’s grand story to film, creating the American legend, exploring both its promises and failures.

Jean-Christophe Klotz is a Franco-American director. After years as a foreign correspondent for news agencies (Sygma, Gamma, Capa…), his experience with political investigations led him to Rwanda, where he was faced with the horror of genocide. He drew on this experience in making his first full length-films: a documentary, (Return to Kigali, selected at Cannes Festival in 2006), and a feature (Black Out, selected at Locarno in 2009). Since then he has directed many documentary films that confirm his position as a politically engaged witness such as Money, Blood and Democracy – About the Karachi Affair (90 mn, Arte 2013 - Grand Prix and Public Prize – FIGRA 2014 / International Current Affairs and Social Documentary Film Festival) or The Terror Routes (2 x 75mn, Arte – Maha Productions 2010) which explores the causes of the evil that led to the 9/11 attacks. His latest film, Agatha Christie vs Hercule Poirot (Arte, 2016) illustrates his reflections on the documentary form.
