John-Paul Casella is an independent student filmmaker who was born and raised and is currently based in Delaware. He is a third-year Media Communication major at the University of Delaware. Casella is also pursuing a minor in English.
He has been producing short films for nearly a decade. Starting in 2021, he began releasing his films online. Of the eleven short films and video projects he has publicly showcased, Casella has been selected for numerous film festivals worldwide, earning the Best Student Short Film award at the IMDb-qualifying New York International Film Festival for his short film 'The Spirited Mind of Harry T. Edward' in 2024 and the second place award for Best Documentary at the FilmNOW: A Regional High School Film Festival for ‘Superhuman’. His first short film, 'Into the Sea of Life,' was selected for the All-American High School Film Festival in 2022, where it was screened at the AMC Empire 25 theater in Times Square, New York. In 2023, his film 'The Filmmaker' was also showcased.
Casella is self-taught and dreams of making films that resonate with a broad, diverse audience around the world. He has a specific interest in exploring themes related to the personal daily struggles of the average person and young adults in a vast, daunting, yet hopeful world. He takes an authentic and honest approach to his characters and stories, with no single favorite genre, opting instead to dive into many different pools.
