Michael was born in North-West London to Nigerian parents. His mother enrolled him in drama classes when he was six years old. Michael joined the cast of Grange Hill at nine years of age, making him the show’s youngest ever actor. He played the part of Max Abassi in the programme for five years. Making a smooth transition from child to adult star, Michael has gone on to have leading roles in the BBC1 smash Hotel Babylon, and international hits Luther, Fortitude, and Misfits. Other notable roles include Doctor Who, where he played DI Billy Shipton in the classic Blink story, the TV adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, and the recent reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise. As well as being hugely recognisable for his role as Lloyd Asike in the long-running medical drama series Casualty, Michael has also received acclaim as the leads in the award-winning plays Fallout (Royal Court Theatre), and Elmina’s Kitchen (Garrick Theatre, West End).
Michael has written two novels, Black Shoes, and Vivian’s Couch.
