James is a South Coast, NSW based award winning documentary film maker. He started his film making journey in 2019 on a series of impact films. James works on commercial and impact films, he has been engaged by organisations such as NSW State Government, Wollongong City Council, Dementia Research Community, Bird's Robe Records, Nature Conservation Council and West Wyolong Movies to produce films capturing their stories. Highlights include: 'Mining The Blue Mountains' drawing national attention to an environmental issue and winning international awards as well as producing a major music documentary series for long term collaborator Bird's Robe Records - his biggest project to date!
In 2021 James partnered with renowned water scientist Dr Ian Wright to produce 'Mining The Blue Mountains' a feature documentary spotlighting the damage done by heritage mines in the UNESCO protected Blue Mountains wilderness. The feature documentary went on to win international awards and has amassed over 35,000 views. "Coal Creek' an impact film sequel was filmed in the Royal National Park, placed 2nd in the 2024 Wollongong City Short Film Festival.
James has also worked on a number of feature documentaries with West Wyolong Movies across NSW including 'Lindley's Last Ride' filmed in snowy mountain country and launched to a packed regional theatre.
Since 2023 James has been working with Bird's Robe Records to produce a music documentary series telling the story of the label and its artists. This project has taken him around Australia and Europe interviewing over 50 artists, filming countless concerts and 10 months editing. To date 4 episodes have been released with many more planned.
James is currently open to commission for his next project.
