Juri Padel, german theatre director, filmmaker and actor additionally studied media science, classical literature and philosophy at the University of Cologne.
As an actor, on stage and on screen, his prestigious credits include productions at the Schaubühne Berlin with Thomas Ostermeier and series such as "The Queen's Gambit" by Frank Scott. His first feature film JUNK SPACE BERLIN, funded by the Senate of Berlin, premiered at the 29th International Filmfest Oldenburg, September 2022.
Oscillating between drama, fantasy and science fiction, JUNK SPACE BERLIN deals with social division and nationalism, with marginalization and abuse, and explores the dangers but also the opportunities of digitalization and artificial intelligence.
With a team that comes from the most diverse art forms, we developed an idiosyncratic style and produced a film that partly was AI generated and combines the power and abstraction of theatrical material with the possibilities of the screen.
On the one hand, the film Junk Space Berlin is a child of its time; on the other hand, I think its a radically free and courageous work that has already completed its own turnaround, creating a first "subversive" place where the "new" people experience their future wonderland.
Let me just put it like that: In JUNK SPACE BERLIN „stranger things“ happen, it’s a modern Shakespearean Drama which unfolds in a frightening „Inland-Empire- Dystopia“, where four outsiders „Enter The Void“ to finally celebrate in a utopian nigthclub.
