BIO
Mary McDonald is a writer and multimedia artist living and working in London. She is a senior, female, emerging artist. She has lived and worked in Africa and Southeast Asia. Mary is committed to telling stories in ways that mix the arts.
Mary's short film exploring violence against women, "It's all in the telling" has been selected for the 2019 Toronto Vanguard Film Festival.
Mary is currently involved in a collaboration, River Revery, with Penn Kemp, commingling Penn’s environmental poetry with Mary’s visual art, multimedia animations and transmedia storytelling. River Revery is a collaboration in progress thanks to the generous support of the London Arts Council, City of London’s Community Arts Investment Program. This work considers the impact we have had on the river flowing within our city and its interwoven environment along the banks of the Thames. The Augmented Reality artwork for River Revery was exhibited at Museum London during Wordsfest 2018, and will be published in the upcoming edition of Synaeresis.
McDonald will be working next on a collaboration, "On the Margins of History" with Serbian born poet, Natasha Boskic and Syrian poet, Mohamad Kebbewar. She will be presenting research work at the OER19 conference in Galway, Ireland in April.
Mary is a member of The Forest City Gallery. Mary’s multimedia animation exhibit, “Reveries and Truths”, was featured at The Arts Project as part of the 2018 Visual Fringe festival. Also in 2018, Mary launched an Augmented Reality art and multimedia animation exhibit, The Dream Life of Teresa Harris, in collaboration with Penn Kemp. This was for the launch of Penn’s Local Heroes (Insomniac Press) at Museum London and was on exhibit during July at Eldon House Heritage Site.
Her writing has appeared in such publications as The New Quarterly and Ocassus, and her play, "13 inches of closet space” was produced as part of the 2017 London One Act Festival. Mary McDonald is currently pursuing her Master’s of Educational Technology through UBC. She has her B.A. in English Literature from Trent University and her B.Ed. from Queen’s University.
