It's A New Day
From Mother Theresa to Malala Yousafzai and from Audrey Hepburn to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – they and and a whole range of iconic women are portrayed by the Dutch singer Anouk in her music video for ‘It’s a New Day’. In total, the artist pays tribute to 28 different women from the worlds of science, politics, art, sports, activism, fashion, media and even royalty, all while remaining her recognisable self: one of the Netherlands’ biggest music stars of the past 25 years.

Together with director Jim Taihuttu and producer Julius Ponten, Victor D. Ponten (Velp, 1981) founded Habbekrats, which developed several advertising campaigns, music videos, commercials, books, short films and feature films from 2004 to 2016. With Jim, Victor directed music videos for Duvelduvel, De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, Pete Philly & Perquisite, Opgezwolle, The Partysquad, The Opposites and Dio, among others, and eventually the feature film Rabat (2011), for which actor Nasrdin Dchar won a Golden Calf for best actor.
After Rabat, Victor was creative producer of Jim’s feature film WOLF (2013), which won Golden Calf awards for best direction and best actor (Marwan Kenzari), and, among other things, he wrote and directed a music video for Yellow Claw, Diplo & LNY TNZ (‘Techno’, almost 24 million views on youtube) and the short film Passage (2015), starring Teun Kuilboer and Willem de Bruin. In 2016 Habbekrats was incorporated into the new company New Amsterdam Film Company, for which Victor developed the positioning.
Sometimes you hear a song and before it’s finished, you have an idea. The video is dedicated to ‘the ones leading the way’. Some of these women are the first to be acknowledged in their field of expertise, some had the courage to stand up for themselves and take the first step towards gender equality and some are present day leaders and activist, but there is one thing they all have in common: they all fight for what they believe in and therefore set a great example to today’s society and are an inspiration to young girls all over the world.
