José Alvarenga Jr. was born in Brazil in 1960 and started his career in Advertising after majoring in that area in college. As a director he made several commercials for Coca-Cola, UNILEVER and ASIA MOTORS. Over the last 19 years, he has dedicated his craft to Television and Motion Pictures, where he acts as both director and producer.
As a TV series director he was responsible for directing 17 series – out of which one was adapted for the North-American television audience. ‘NO TOMORROW’ was broadcast on the CW Channel; Alvarenga also acts as one the series executive producers.
His latest TV series, ‘SUPERMAX’ – in which he acted as show runner and general director, was adapted for 5 countries and had its Spanish version directed by award-winning director Daniel Burman.
Alvarenga is a 6-time INTERNATIONAL EMMY-AWARD NOMINEE. Alvarenga was also an associate producer for 49 Brazilian films. Some of these feature films received critical acclaim at International Movie Festivals, such as JUST LIKE OUR PARENTS, by Laís BODANZKY ( BERLIN INTENATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL); GOOD MANNERS by Juliana ROJAS and Marcos DUTRA (LOCARNO FESTIVAL) and DIVINE LOVE by Gabriel MASCARO (SUNDANCE, BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL).
In 2009, he was named one of the 100 most influential Brazilian people of the year by Época Magazine.
