Experiencing Interruptions?

In the Wake of Justice Delayed

In the Wake of Justice Delayed tells the intimate stories of two indigenous families who’ve lost loved ones to murder in Alaska and their search to find justice. This emotional portrait explores what families endure as they face a cumbersome legal system and the tremendous toll it takes on them.

Director Statement

Having lived and worked across Alaska for 40 years, I am disturbed by the fact that so much violence and so many murders go unresolved. I care deeply about the people I have come to know across our vast state, and it is my opinion that that our current justice system is simply not working in a way that helps victims feel vindicated, or to heal. Lack of justice is a key factor in tragic outcomes such as substance abuse and suicide rates. Lack of faith in law enforcement, courts, and our penal system discourage victims and their families and communities from reporting. Perpetrators are not held accountable, or when they are, it can take years, if not decades to have ‘your day in court’. Meanwhile the families grieve. We can do better and it is my hope that this film creates more understanding and empathy. This film is targeting lawyers, judges, juries, troopers, and advocates, and is dedicated the Miller and Lane families who shared their stories with hope for change.
