Interpersonal: Preview Cut
Cydney Ramos is in her senior year at Buffalo State University obtaining a Dual Bachelors Degree in Television and Films Arts and Writing. Her essence is described as an artistically driven student who enjoys the process of creating films including writing, producing, directing and editing. Cydney grew up in Long Island and has always been known to be a creative in her community. She decided in her senior year she wanted to work to be accepted into Buffalo State's film project, TFA, that only accepts fifteen students per year. Throughout her years of attending Buffalo State University, Cydney has been offered a tremendous amount of experiences that include working alongside Emmy-Award Winning writer Tom Fontana and BAFTA Award winning director from London Metin Hüseyin as Key Hair/Makeup Artist for the 30 minute short film, "The Wrong Road". Cydney honors the experience she had becoming the auteur of her short film, Interpersonal. She continues working on films today and aspires to direct more projects.
Creating Interpersonal has been one of my most creative dreams to come to life as a truly experimental project. As a student filmmaker, it's always a motivation to push past the limits and see what I can create regarding a lack of experience and funds. This is my first film I've ever truly created- written, produced, directed and edited with the help from my peers and guidance from my professors. This story was truly brought to life by the dedicated actors, who would live on set if they had the choice. As my first real project, the most rewarding part of the process was not only seeing the art I've worked on for months officially turn into a film, something that could represent my creative style that I can share with my community. But being able to connect with others in my community who share the same abstracted eye and truly understand the words beneath my writing. I created this film wanting to confuse my audience, wanting my audience to leave the theater still puzzling the pieces together. I can't lie and say I don't love a cheesy straight forward film just as much as I love a gut-wrenching psychological thriller, but the objective is always to create films like the ones that have stuck with me. My creative motivation for this project and most of my writing stems from watching a movie and then immediately trying to figure out the true meaning of the film. I believe the most valuable experience of creating Interpersonal was learning my boundaries as a female director and finally learning things I need to become comfortable in order to achieve my full creative motives on set. I'm sure every filmmaker/director in this world experiences wanting to be able to go back and fix those things you don't like but didn't want to speak up about. But I think that's the beauty of filmmaking, you can never actually go back (reshoots don't count). So you better perfect it right now. I've learned that instead of wishing you could go back, you take those lessons and just watch how much your next project grows.
