Director Biography - Erik Sémashkin

Arrived from Ukraine in France in 2012, I am a young director with more than ten short films to my credit, selected and awarded internationally.

I want to diversify and explore new forms of filmmaking, working on several genres. However, this variety of films has a common background.

Whether it’s about the environment or international conflicts, I remain sensitive to current events while telling my story.

Arrivé d'Ukraine en France en 2012, je suis un jeune réalisateur avec plus d'une dizaine de courts-métrages à mon actif, sélectionnés et primés à l'international.

Je souhaite me diversifier et explorer de nouvelles formes de réalisation, en travaillant sur plusieurs genres. Cependant, cette variété de films possède un fond commun.

Que ce soit sur l'environnement ou les conflits internationaux, je reste sensible à l’actualité, tout en racontant mon histoire.

Director Statement

The body is a machine that must be fed. Through the journey of a mouthful in the organism, Inside you proposes to explore this structure of flesh and blood that we are.

Who spoke of inner beauty? Or of beauty at all? Inside you offers a face-to-face encounter with ourselves, our entrails, our organs, with this irreducible ugliness that is our common lot. Which allows us all to live without conditions or morals. This system, however cowardly it may be, is an opportunity.

We might as well take care of it. With its organic appearance and concrete settings, Inside You takes us right up close to our digestive system, battered by junk food. Here, the viewer must look at themselves as they are, no matter how difficult it may be to digest.

Le corps est une machine qui doit être nourrie. À travers le voyage d’une bouchée dans l’organisme, Inside you propose d’explorer cette structure de chair et de sang que nous sommes.

Qui a parlé de beauté intérieure ? Ou de beauté tout court ? Inside you propose un face-à-face avec nous-mêmes, nos entrailles, nos organes, avec cette irréductible laideur qui est notre lot commun. Qui nous fait tous vivre sans condition, ni morale. Ce système, quelle que soit sa laideur, est une chance.

Autant en prendre soin. Par son aspect organique, ses décors concrets, Inside you nous jette au plus près de notre système digestif, malmené par la malbouffe. Ici, le spectateur doit se regarder tel qu’il est, qu’importe combien la chose est difficile à digérer.
