Director Biography

Emma (Michelle) Richmond is a 3D Animator and filmmaker from Jacksonville, Florida. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Animation at SCAD, following the completion of her BFA in Animation from the same institution.
Driven by her strong passion for her latest short film, Inkwashed!, Emma was appointed director—marking her third large-scale short film production at SCAD. Her previous project, Above the Clouds, wrapped up in May 2024—her senior film.
With a deep love for animation since childhood, Emma brings a strong sense of empathy, curiosity, and adaptability to every project. She’s known among her peers and instructors for her eagerness to learn, her collaborative spirit, and her desire to uplift others. Whether working independently or as part of a team, she approaches each project with dedication, creativity, and heart.

Director Statement

Inkwashed! is a film that was conceived as a response to the question; what would the ‘world’ inside a drawing look like? 2D drawings often create the illusion of three dimensional space and the initial concept was to try to make this space accessible by a 3D camera. In addition, Inkwashed! is a disaster movie in the tradition of the cinema of the 1970s; with human error and hubris leading to a calamitous event which has to be subsequently survived by the story’s characters.
