Inheritance
When Marissa’s work-from-home day is interrupted by unexpected visitors, secrets unravel to reveal her true motives.
Inheritance, the short film, is based off of the struggle between homeowners and squatters. What is legally permissible through squatter laws in the US and Canada has made it possible for squatters to gain legal entitlement to stay on property owned and paid for by homeowners.
Through learning of homeowner’s worst nightmares- the squatters that appeared as well-meaning renters, eager parties seemingly selling a home, or even home organizers being paid to accomplish a project, “Inheritance” was inspired by these real events and a love for thrillers.
This is the story of a fictional character, Marissa - a woman who competes to secure her perceived inheritance with a calculated plan to overtake her parent’s property. She slyly advances after her father falls ill and moves away for an early retirement. Her plans are challenged when the new homeowners arrive with their own plan.

Crystal C. Rose is a Jamaican- Canadian actor. She was born in Scarborough, Ontario and from a young age, she always had a love for the stage and film. Her roots started off in directing approximately 10 years ago, where she directed her first short film and theatrical production that she took on tour to the United States. Crystal’s Theatre studies at York University led her to make the decision to pursue her passion for acting and filmmaking. Though life led her to focus on other areas during the past couple of years, it was in 2019 that she decided to follow her heart once again and continue to pursue her artistic career professionally.
During the peak of the pandemic, Crystal embarked on her directing journey and created a successful web-series called Malcolm and Monique viewed by thousands.
As a filmmaker, Crystal’s desire is to tell the stories of black and POC's communities from a Canadian standpoint and break the mold of how a BIPOC person is to be shown and represented in film/TV.
