Inferno 2.0

Inferno 2.0 is an experimental animated short film inspired by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Through a series of surreal, AI-generated visual sequences, the film reinterprets the nine circles of hell and culminates in a vision of a lost paradise as reflections of modern societal phenomena, from hypocrisy, fleeting pleasure, and rampant consumerism to environmental destruction, political corruption, and surveillance culture. Each circle is introduced by original poetry, written with the assistance of AI technology under the artistic direction of the filmmaker, and presented vocally in Italian, serving as a thematic gateway and emotional anchor for the viewer.

Utilizing morphing animation, dreamlike transformations, and surreal figures and symbolic scenes, Inferno 2.0 creates a hypnotic descent through contemporary human vices, blurring the lines between past and future, reality and dystopia. The visual and audio elements of Inferno 2.0 were created through a collaborative process between human artistic direction and advanced AI tools such as DALL·E, Runway ML, Suno AI, and ElevenLabs. Conceptual prompts, poetic scripts, voiceovers, and soundscapes were developed using AI technologies, guided and curated by the filmmaker to craft an immersive, coherent experience. The soundtrack, generated with AI assistance, blends minimalistic, melancholic soundscapes with ethereal ambient elements, deepening the immersive and emotional journey through the digital inferno.

Inferno 2.0 is not a literal adaptation of Dante's work but an atmospheric and emotional reimagining, capturing the spirit of existential reflection and human fallibility in the digital age. After traversing the nine circles of hell, the journey culminates in a final vision of a lost paradise, offering a stark meditation on the fragility of human values and the enduring hope for redemption. With its fusion of experimental imagery, poetic narration, contemporary soundscape, and human-AI collaboration, Inferno 2.0 stands as a bold visual essay and an artistic warning against losing paradise once again.

Inferno 2.0 is not a condemnation, but a mirror. It does not accuse, it asks questions. Through poetic and symbolic form, the film invites reflection on structures we all inhabit.

Inferno 2.0 is my personal reinterpretation of Dante’s journey through Hell, reimagined in a contemporary context shaped by moral decay, social indifference, and digital illusion. Each circle of hell reflects an urgent problem of our time: from greed and environmental destruction to surveillance and war.

Rather than telling a traditional story, I aimed to create an emotional and symbolic experience. A core goal of the project was to explore the creative potential of artificial intelligence, not just as a technical tool, but as a conceptual and artistic collaborator. From prompt design and visual generation to narrative structure and poetic text, the entire process was guided by AI interaction. The result is a surreal and immersive atmosphere built from AI-generated imagery, animated transitions, multilingual voiceover poetry, and music.

Inferno 2.0 is not a literal retelling, but a poetic meditation on the human condition in the 21st century. It invites the audience to descent, not into flames, but into our collective conscience.
