In Silence

Martin is an artist. He wakes up this morning and feels that internal pain he senses for some time now. He is desperate and tired from that feeling. He meets his friend Stephen after he had tried to sell some paintings. After a brief conversation Martin realizes that his best friend doesn't understand how he feels but even more so Stephen doesn't even try to ask him seriously about that. Martin observes the life around him and doesn't like that world. That makes the pain inside even bigger. Later standing in the park he meets Nora- a young, beautiful girl. They like each other and for the first time in a while Martin completely opens himself to somebody else. He makes a present for her- a round glass that he transforms into a piece of art. She kisses him and spontaneously runs away without saying her name. Later, in Martin is in an abandoned building that he had found. His plan is to create an art installation in the building full of graffiti making that ugly place beautiful. He draws a huge dark butterfly painting, and he places it on a wall. Later, as he walks around in the corridors of that abandoned place, he feels that the feeling is coming once again. He screams in desperation. On the next morning things get even worse. The pain is getting bigger. Again, he is on the street trying to sell some of his art. He meets an important curator trying to present his works, but she does not pay any attention to him. Returning home, he finds a distrain order on the door of his apartment. Having no place to go he walks in the park. He is holding the same shape glass that he gave to Nora but with different pictures drawn on it. Nora's hand places her glass over his piece. She comes out of nowhere at the same time as before. Both glasses create a ship with sails. Martin once again is happy to see her. They spent all night together and it seems like they understand each other perfectly. At one moment Nora kisses Martin but this time that kiss is more passionate. Again, she runs away. Martin finds a small piece that she left in his hand with a note that she will be there on the same place tomorrow. This time she tells Martin her name. Later on, Martin is going to the abandoned building. Two dark figures of men attack him. They beat him and take his money. Moments after he is standing at his favorite place in the abandoned building watching somewhere in space. He barely tries to move. Finding a spot in the dark he lies on the ground and falls into sleep. On the next day he is at a lake. The pain inside is crushing him. Flashes take him back to the moments with Nora but he realizes that she was in his imagination, as a perfect fantasy. He understands that he is alone and has Stephen as a friend, but he is not the answer to his problems. Martin takes off his clothes and goes into the lake. He disappears in the water. The Curator has a meeting with clients. Martin's painting is on the wall. She is presenting the exhibition and especially that extraordinary painting that was found, painted by unknown but amazing artist in her opinion. Through the story Martin creates small interviews with people that he meets spontaneously at the street asking them about their fears and passion. It is like an interview of his life. At the time of his death he is asking his best friend about him. Stephen finds out that his best friend is not there anymore, and he has made a mistake of missing the chance to have more time with the person that he cares the most.

Director Statement

A year ago, i was shocked by the news that a friend of mine committed suicide. Just like that... Without saying anything. Everyone was shocked by the news. Personally, I was angry with myself for not noticing anything, that I didn’t realized that there was a problem with him. He was the same for everyone. But sometimes things are different as they look. Then I remembered Robin Williams, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington- names of people who were my inspiration and they decided to leave the world somehow quietly, without explanation. That was the reason I made this movie. Because I think we need to talk more about this problem- the depression. That it is our responsibility to defend and help people when they need it, because sometimes those angels leave our lives… In Silence… But they could stay little longer.
