Director Biography - Isabel Herguera

Isabel Herguera is an animation film director graduated from UPV-Bilbao, continuing her studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and obtaining a master's degree at Calarts LA. She directed Animac from 2003-12 and coordinated LIM at Arteleku in Donostia from 2005-14. Her films have been screened at major animation festivals, her artwork has been exhibited in several museums and institutions, and she is considered one of the pioneer women of independent animation in Spain. Apart from her film and artistic activity Isabel is a visiting professor at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad in India since 2005 and a visiting professor at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing since 2012. Since 2017 she has been a full professor at the chair of animation at Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln in Germany. She has taught animation workshops and courses in various schools and locations around the world such as Ethiopia, China, Cuba, Australia, Korea, Colombia, Mexico and Italy, although the place where she has most developed her work in recent years and where she finds most inspiration is India, from where her current project Sultana's Dream, her first feature film, originates.
