Brandon Gotto is a Belgian independent filmmaker, born 1 August 1994 in Charleroi, Belgium.
Self-taught and passionate about cinema since childhood, he founded his own production company (Deep Dreams Films) and specializes in dark, visceral, psychological films blending horror, thriller and social realism. His work is known for its raw emotional intensity, often exploring themes such as grief, trauma, and human darkness through minimalist budgets and a personal, uncompromising aesthetic.
"Ida" is a film that I hope will grab you by the throat. That's exactly what I wanted to evoke when I wrote and directed it. My goal was clear: to plunge the viewer into a deep, visceral, almost suffocating psychological tension. I wanted the audience to feel what Alice's character is going through, for the unease to gradually take hold, without ever resorting to gratuitous spectacle. Everything hinges on atmosphere, what's left unsaid, silences, glances. It's a mental confinement, a true thriller.
I made "Ida" with extremely modest means, but it took me an enormous amount of time to tell this story of grief, obsession, and upheaval. It's an intimate, tense, minimalist narrative driven by a desire for emotional truth. It's a Belgian film made in Belgium; it's a film rooted in its local culture. A film made with great sincerity.
