Director Biography - Queenie Zhang

As a current MFA Production student at Florida State University, Queenie doesn’t believe in the power of sleep and relies too much on anxiety as her fuel. Her best friends on set are the apple boxes and she wants to be famous (and rich) enough one day to manufacture G&E trucks for short people.

Queenie wants to make more films about generational trauma, bicultural identity issue, and the intricacy of human emotion.

Director Statement

This short was inspired by a moment in time, a chance to preserve a memory. When I first laid eyes on my high school crush, she was reading a book in the library and my heart went supernova. I wanted to introduced myself but I was so nervous that I walked in front of her three times before I plucked up the courage to talk. Hence, our main protagonist, Eliza, was also given three chances.

But, reality often diverges from fantasy. My crush and I were only friends and we gradually lost touch. And of course, I never wrote her any cute notes, nothing like what Eliza and Olivia had. This short was to a product of an imagination, a recreation of my reality. Because, as Qui Nguyen wrote in "She Kills Monster", in fantasy (in playing D&D), I get the girl.
