Icarus
Freely inspired by the infamous character from Greek mythology, Icarus is an immersive experience that literally wraps us in the skin of Icarus, the young man who burns his wings by flying too close to the sun. We move through his memories of the places and events from his childhood, privy to conversations with his father, Daedalus.

A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s production program, Michel Lemieux has been amazing audiences with the originality and scope of his creative output for over three decades. By 1984, an entire generation of artists in Quebec and around the globe had been impacted by his multidisciplinary show, Solide Salad.
Creator, set designer, director, composer, performer and videographer, Lemieux continues to be at the forefront of the performing arts. With the production company Lemieux Pilon 4D Art, founded in 1990, he and Victor Pilon devise singular shows in which new technologies intensify the audience’s sensory and emotional experience. Their collaboration has yielded Dreamscapes, La Belle et la Bête, The Tempest and NORMAN. Michel also created The Disappearance of Lady Macbeth, a digital installation opening the Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibition for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. He recently completed ICARUS, a mixed reality VR experience that was presented at the Cannes XR Festival as part of the Tribeca Film Festival selection. Michel also co-created TORUK—The First Flight (for Cirque du Soleil) and Continuum at the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium in Montreal. Lastly, he co-created Cité Mémoire, an urban multimedia experience sprawling across Old Montreal and the downtown area.
Creating this virtual-reality work has convinced me that, with this new medium, it is possible to tell emotion-packed stories that venture into the realm of dreams. For ICARUS, the challenge was to transform a live performance into an experience that was totally digital and, above all, immersive.
