Director Biography - Beth Riesgraf

Beth Riesgraf: A Distinguished Voice in TV and Film, Bridging Creativity On and Off-Screen

In a rapidly evolving industry, Beth Riesgraf's diverse skill set, unique vision, and unwavering commitment to storytelling make her an invaluable asset to any TV or film project. Her distinctive voice challenges norms, pushes boundaries, and offers fresh perspectives that resonate with audiences. As a director, photographer, and actor, she consistently delivers excellence, authenticity, and innovation, solidifying her status as a remarkable talent and an invaluable addition to any production team.

Behind the camera, Riesgraf began her career as a fine art photographer with her work being exhibited at galleries around the world and featured in magazines such as GQ, NYLON, and MEAN among others.
She began making a name for herself as a filmmaker in 2003 after she debuted her documentary FAR AWAY SWIMMING POOL, which premiered as part of her critically acclaimed multimedia art installation “AMERICA MOTEL” in 2004. In 2011, Beth was one of five artists selected to direct a film for The Standard Hotel + Swedish apparel giant WeSC. Her film, A STANDARD STORY (2011) was lauded by VOGUE for her “ visionary approach, exceptional artistry and her ability to weave a tapestry of emotions and captivate audiences, leaving them with an indelible impression that resonates long after the credits roll”. The film went on to win ‘Best of Show’ at the Best Shorts Competition and Best Actress and an award for Creativity/Originality at the 2012 Indie Fest. Her next short, MAIL COMPANION (2020) emerged from a profound longing for human connection during the challenging times of the pandemic. The film provided a sense of togetherness amidst isolating circumstances for it’s audiences and became an official selection at the LA Shorts International Film Festival, Indie Fest, The London International Short Film Festival, as well as a finalist at the Jelly Fest. Her current short film, IT IS WHAT IT IS (OR THE STANDARDS OF OUTRAGE) (2023) has earned multiple awards from prestigious festivals including Best Director, Best Short Film, Best Actor, Best Original Story, Best Ensemble Cast and more.
Beyond her expertise behind the camera, Beth's acting talent shines brightly. Her commanding on-screen presence and portrayal of complex, multifaceted roles is marked by an unwavering commitment to authenticity and a deep understanding of the human condition. From fierce and empowering heroines to vulnerable and introspective characters, Beth's performances are infused with nuance, depth, and an undeniable magnetism that captivates audiences. Some of her notable TV appearances include Paramount+ Army drama 68 WHISKEY, produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard; USA’s COMPLICATIONS produced by Matt Nix; as 'Dr. Maeve Donovan' on CRIMINAL MINDS; a surprise role on Netflix’s hit series STRANGER THINGS as ‘Billy’s Mom’, and LEVERAGE:REDEMPTION, which Riesgraf has directed four episodes of.
Additional tv appearances include DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, SEAL TEAM, THE MENTALIST, MY NAME IS EARL, WITHOUT A TRACE, NCIS, KILLER WOMEN, THE LIBRARIANS and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.
