Director Statement

The music video for “I Saw Three Ships” was a collaboration with the genre-bending music project &Tilly.

For me, it was my first experience directing a music video. I wanted to capture a feeling of friendship and warmth. The reimagining of the original carol by &Tilly allowed a story about loneliness and connection to emerge naturally, thanks to the change in atmosphere throughout the song. The mellow and cozy sound of the music - with its choir-like warmth and childlike, almost village-like feeling, lent itself well to the cute, soft style that I ended up going for with the characters.
