IL FARO

In Emilia, in the earthquake areas, a musician wanders around ecological islands looking for discarded objects. He observes
them, listens to them and finally gives them a new opportunity: to become musical instruments in the hands of the Rulli Frulli band, a crew of kids of every color, gender and ability that lights up the
stages all over Italy. Since its birth, the band has obtained records, concerts and a thousand activities, in a crescendo that has generated a model of inclusion studied by the Catholic University. Thus, today Rulli Frulli are no longer just a band, but a beacon of hope for many fragile kids who navigate the complex waves of life. This movie is the story of that beacon.

In Emilia, nelle zone del terremoto, un musicista gira per isole ecologiche a cercare oggetti scartati. Li osserva, li ascolta e alla fine dona loro una nuova opportunità: diventare strumenti musicali tra le mani della banda Rulli Frulli, una ciurma di ragazzi di ogni colore, genere e abilità che infiamma i palchi di tutta Italia. Dalla nascita ad oggi, per la banda sono arrivati dischi, concerti e mille attività, in un
crescendo che ha generato un modello di inclusione studiato dall’Università Cattolica. Così, oggi i Rulli Frulli non sono più solo una banda, ma un faro di speranza per tanti ragazzi fragili che navigano tra le onde complesse della vita.
Questo film è la storia di quel faro.

Director Biography - Gianluca Marcon, Diego Gavioli

DIEGO GAVIOLI
I was born in Cento in 1980, where I live and work. My professional career began at the Bologna-based production company Achtoons, where in 2010 I curated the Animatic phase for the animated series co-produced by Rai Fiction “L’arte con Matì e Dadà”. In 2011 I directed the short film “RMY - Relazione Mentale Y”, winner at the “Zero trenta Corto Festival” and finalist at the “Amarcort Film Festival”. Among my music videos, “Queen of Failureland” by Birthh (2016), awarded as best video at the “Mallorca International Film Festival”, and “Desiderio (cannibal version)” (2021) by Cristina Donà
stand out, characterized by a constant search for a surreal language that blends real shots and graphic animations. Since 2015 I have been collaborating with the children's theater company "Teatro per Davvero" (Accademia Perduta Romagna Teatri), curating video content and music for their productions. In 2018 I made a short reportage entitled "il Paese dei Treni Volanti"; between 2021 and 2022 I made, together with the actor Marco Cantori, three short films within the project "Tutto il teatro è paese", an initiative of the Teatro Massimo Troisi that connects theater with stories and places of Nonantola.

Sono nato a Cento nel 1980, dove vivo e lavoro. Il mio percorso professionale ha inizio presso la casa di produzione bolognese Achtoons, dove nel 2010 ho curato la fase di Animatic per la serie animata coprodotta da Rai Fiction “L’arte con Matì e Dadà”. Nel 2011 ho diretto il cortometraggio “RMY - Relazione Mentale Y”,
vincitore al “Zero trenta Corto Festival” e finalista all’“Amarcort Film Festival”. Tra i miei video musicali si distinguono “Queen of Failureland” di Birthh (2016), premiato come miglior video al “Mallorca International Film Festival”, e “Desiderio (cannibal version)” (2021) di Cristina Donà, caratterizzati da una costante ricerca di un linguaggio surreale che fonde riprese reali e animazioni grafiche. Dal 2015 collaboro con la compagnia di teatro ragazzi “Teatro per Davvero” (Accademia Perduta Romagna Teatri), curando contenuti video e musiche per le loro produzioni. Nel 2018 ho realizzato un breve reportage dal titolo “il Paese dei Treni
Volanti”; tra il 2021 e il 2022 ho realizzato, insieme all’attore Marco Cantori, tre cortometraggi all'interno del progetto “Tutto il teatro è paese”, un'iniziativa del Teatro Massimo Troisi che mette in relazione il teatro con storie e luoghi di Nonantola.

GIANLUCA MARCON

I was born in Piemonte, in Alessandria to a Venetian father and a mother from Puglia, since 2000 I have lived in Bologna, where I graduated from DAMS with a thesis on the social documentation of Daniele Segre. After the Master in Historical Communication I was
a founding member of Fufilm and Kinodromo, I worked for almost 15 years in a local television and I have been involved in audiovisual teaching since 2009. In 2011 I wrote and directed my first documentary "E noi ve lo dicono"; in 2012 my partnership with
Marco Landini began, we wrote and directed together "Ortobello. Primo concorso di bellezza per orti" in 2012, "Fugh int i scapàin" in 2017. In 2014 I wrote the screenplay for "The human horses" and in 2016 "Magar women" directed by Marco Landini and Rosario
Simanella. In 2019 I wrote and directed "Terre di cannabis".

Director Statement

We met the Rulli Frulli Band at different times and in different ways, but the energy it transmitted to us was a unique, shared, explosive emotion. The path that led us to define the script was natural and spontaneous: to tell, as in a journey, all the steps taken, or almost. The Band is an experience capable of "generating" a possible present and future for all its members and there are many activities that denote its characteristics: the instrument creation workshops and life during trips, the weekly rehearsals and the recording of albums, the meetings to decide the theme of the new show or to organize the buses for trips. The
initial idea was also strengthened by the vast archive fund we had available, a choice that allowed us to bring out the true soul of this "crew". Rulli Frulli represent a much more complex experience than a musical project, where relationships are cultivated day after day, through a growth path based on respect for others and the different abilities of the members. These are simple, but great values. The Rulli Frulli Band was born playing, talking and having fun and Michele Bernardi's animations seemed to us the ideal language to give shape to their "fantastic journey". His visual creations lighten the story and transport it to a realm of imagination, where the band transforms and their story becomes an adventure. This documentary has a profound meaning for us because we want this virtuous example to become widely known, to spread and that one day it can be imitated and shared.
Because it is good for the soul and we believe it can be an opportunity for many.

Abbiamo conosciuto la Banda Rulli Frulli in tempi e modalità diverse ma l'energia che ci ha trasmesso è stata un'emozione unica, condivisa, esplosiva. È stato naturale e spontaneo il percorso che ci ha portato a definire la sceneggiatura: raccontarne, come in un viaggio, tutti i passi compiuti, o quasi. La Banda è un'esperienza in grado di “generare” un presente ed un futuro possibile per tutti i suoi componenti e sono moltissime le attività che ne denotano le caratteristiche: i laboratori di creazione degli strumenti e la vita durante le trasferte, le prove settimanali e le registrazioni degli album, le riunioni per decidere il tema del nuovo spettacolo o per
organizzare i pullman per le trasferte. L'idea iniziale si è rafforzata anche per il vasto fondo d'archivio che avevamo a disposizione, una scelta che ci ha permesso di far emergere la vera anima di questa “ciurma”. I Rulli Frulli rappresentano un'esperienza molto più complessa di un progetto musicale, dove si coltivano rapporti costruiti giorno dopo giorno, attraverso un percorso di crescita basato sul rispetto del prossimo e delle diverse abilità dei componenti. Sono valori semplici, ma grandi. La Banda Rulli Frulli è nata giocando, parlando e divertendosi e le animazioni di Michele Bernardi ci sono sembrate il linguaggio ideale per dare forma al loro “fantastico viaggio”. Le sue creazioni visive alleggeriscono il
racconto e lo trasportano in un regno di immaginazione, dove
la banda si trasforma e la loro storia diventa avventura. Questo documentario ha per noi un significato profondo perché desideriamo che questo esempio virtuoso diventi ampiamente noto, si diffonda e che un giorno possa essere imitato e condiviso. Perché fa bene all'anima e crediamo che possa essere un'opportunità per tanti.
