Johnny is a twenty-one year old filmmaker. He is proficient in writing, cinematography, directing, and editing. He shoots with a focus on composition, and optimizes all elements of filmmaking with an emphasis on storytelling. Johnny began his artistic developmental journey at a very young age, with ambitious ideas and faithful execution. His drive has only increased over the years, and in only a short time has already begun entering the circuit. Inspired heavily by music, Johnny implements complex emotional and musical themes into the seams of his work. He is unafraid of exploring difficult topics and passionately works to execute large scale visions with extreme precision and attention to detail.
This film was created by a small team of six young minds with a shared vision. It was my view that for my first short film, I needed to think outside the box. Short films can be many things, but are so often limited by the amount of time they have to tell their story. When the idea first came to mind, I was listening to the song "I Was Wrong" by The Oh Hellos, featured in the film. I could picture bits and pieces of the story. They were far apart, but as I played the song, I could see more and more. Like synesthesia. It was an incredible rush. That day I wrote down the first draft. I could see the potential, but as a student, I thought the concept was way beyond what my resources allowed. How can a student reinvent the wheel? How can I make my "movie in nine minutes"? As time went on, I began to rethink my skepticism. I realized I could do anything I put my mind to. My co-writer Ethan and I worked together for months restructuring the film, making sure no frames were wasted. We wanted each and every viewing to reveal new bits of information. This film is unbelievably dense. After finishing the writing process, we knew we had no choice but to see it through. We put together a small team, and got to work. It took nearly a full year of constant challenges, lows, highs, and persistence. We have finished what we started, and we are so pleased you can finally see our passion project.
