Dylan Mitro is an Independent Canadian Filmmaker who's work blends the “rawness” of Documentary style filmmaking with their colourful fantasies influenced by their Queerness and nostalgia. Using these principles to shape and unify Dylan’s signature storytelling style.
Dylan’s short film “Ripples”(2022) premiered at the Toronto Inside Out Film Festival and played at San Francisco's Frameline46 and BFI Flare as well as many others internationally.
Dylan's latest short "I Heard a Siren Calling" has been supported by Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council. They recently were apart of the first cohort of the Spindle Film Foundation Mentorship program as well as the Banff Mountain Film Festival Adventure Filmmaking fellowship.
They are currently living in Berlin as the first recipient of the Martha Cooper Scholarship for their LGBTQ+ Documentary research.
"I've Heard a Siren Calling" was born out of my experience of being Queer and gender non-conforming amongst the Great Lake Surfing community here in Ontario. It became a poetic undertaking of the trails of isolation and rebirth. When Nev and I started working together on this film she was starting HRT with her early stage of Transition and the film evolved into a story of rebirth with water being a strong motif for Nev's journey.
