Director Biography - Benedict Johnny

Benedict Johnny is a Nigerian independent filmmaker celebrated for his unique visual style and compelling storytelling. Despite lacking formal film education, Ben has successfully produced several short films and a web series that have received significant acclaim. His work has been featured at film festivals, including the esteemed African Smartphone International Film Festival (ASIFF 2024).

Currently, Ben is developing a new film titled “SAFE HAVEN: Realms of Chaos and Order,” inspired by one of his earlier short films that was never publicly released. Benedict is dedicated to sharing original Nigerian stories, showcasing the richness of African cultures and legends to a global audience.

Director Statement

The part of making this that was the most impactful for me as a filmmaker was writing. This short film is different from many others I have made.

Writing a dark-drama story was a first for me. Even though I have touched on drama in my horror novel "Garden of Eden," it still felt very new.
So, in short, it was a crazy experience. But that's what makes it worth doing.
