Hello, my name is Matthew Charbeneau I am 21 years young, I'm from Michigan and I'm currently attending film school here in Michigan. My dream is to be in the film industry as a director, writer, actor and producer.
Hysteria was born out of my fascination with how fear, trauma, and truth blur together in moments of crisis. I wanted to explore how Hysteria both collective and personal can distort reality and leave us questioning what is real and what is imagined.
In making this film, I was drawn to the psychological space where since and unease become as loud as words. I chose a restrained but atmospheric style to immerse the audience in uncertainty, allowing the tension to grow organically rather than relying on spectacle.
My hope is that viewers come to watch this not only to unsettled but also reflecting on how easily Hysteria can spread in our lives, how perception shapes reality, how depression can manifest in our minds, and how fear exposes our most vulnerable selves.
As a filmmaker, Hysteria represents my commitment to telling, bold, intimate stories that challenge audiences emotionally and psychologically.
