Director Statement

"The allotted function of art is not, as is often assumed, to put across ideas, to propagate thoughts, to serve as an example. The aim of art is to prepare a person for death, to plough and harrow his soul, rendering it capable of turning to good." - Andrei Tarkovsky

Several deaths and a birth sparked the initial script for Hunt the Wolf. My grandfather's passing was rough, but losing my youngest cousin Jack and finally divorcing myself from Christianity was brutal. These compounding life events, plus the impending birth of my daughter, left me wrestling with life and death - existential dread. So that's the seed, and it's grown and changed into this final film over the subsequent years.

Even though the material is heavy - crafting an engrossing, "entertaining" 90 minutes with an eye firmly on character became the goal, and I'm thrilled to learn how people react and engage with the film!

Hunt the Wolf is a labor of - discovery, opening, reconciling, denouncement, learning, and ultimately acceptance - both of me, the film, the themes, the characters, and finally - it seems - a crossing of the Rubicon. Also, I'm dyslexic and look forward to talking to you instead of typing :)
